Founded in 1973, we are a highly active Scout group based in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, with five youth sections from Beavers to Rovers, plus a very active Water Section that supports all sections.

About the Group

Over 50 years of scouting in Dunboyne

1st Meath Dunboyne Scout Group was founded in 1973 and remains a highly active group to this day. We comprise two Beaver colonies, three Cub packs, two Scout troops, a Venture unit and a Rovers section, plus a very active Water Section that serves the entire group.

We are part of Scouting Ireland, and our programme aims to encourage the physical, intellectual, character, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so they may achieve their full potential.

From camping in the Wicklow Mountains to kayaking on the Royal Canal, we live for the great outdoors.

Deeply rooted in Dunboyne since 1973, we serve and give back to the community that supports us.

Our unique Water Section gives members kayaking, canoeing and water safety skills found in few other groups.

Beavers

Where every big adventure starts small

Beavers is the first section of Scouting Ireland, welcoming children who are in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class in primary school into the world of scouting. In a safe, fun, and inclusive environment, young Beavers explore the natural world, develop friendships, and begin building the values of respect, care, and adventure that will stay with them for life.

Cub Scouts, are ready to take on bigger challenges and explore more of the world around them. The Cub programme builds on the curiosity and confidence of Beavers, introducing structured teamwork, outdoor skills, and more ambitious adventures.

Scout Troop is where scouting truly comes alive. Young people between 1st Year and 3rd Year of secondary school, take on more independence, leadership responsibility, and outdoor adventure than ever before. Scouts plan and lead their own activities, take on challenging expeditions, and develop the practical and personal skills that last a lifetime.

Ventures

Your adventure, your way

Venture Scouts, typically in 4th, 5th and 6th year of secondary school, have the freedom and responsibility to shape their own scouting experience. This section is young-person led, with Ventures deciding their own programme, planning their own expeditions, and taking on significant leadership and community roles.

Rovers is the section for young adults aged 18–21 who want to continue their scouting journey. It is a welcoming space to build friendships, take on new challenges, and shape the kind of scouting experience that fits this stage of life.

Building Skills on the Water

For more than two decades, our Water Section has been a key part of our group, covering all sections, as well as adult leaders. With a focus on building skills in kayaking, canoeing, and water safety. Above all, it’s about enjoying time on the water, building confidence, working together, and creating memorable adventures along the way.
