Beaver CSA Hike 2025 🦫
As we pulled off the M50 at Kilternan, it wasn’t looking good for the 2025 Beaver CSA Hike. Windscreen wipers on full and grey clouds all around. Arriving at the Knockree Hostel and a magic wand wave later, the skies cleared and, for what had started out somewhat underwhelmingly, had transformed into the most beautiful of days.
We started our hike across the road and down to the river, before passing through Crone Woods and working our way up to the top of Maulin.
The Beavers got a great introduction to tracking on what will fondly be remembered as the “poo” 💩 hike. The Beavers got to practice backwoods skills, identifying safe drinking water and certain edible plants. To understanding the forest around then and what can be used for orienting themselves when out hiking.

The stroll back to the hostel took us on a scenic walk past Powerscourt Waterfall and some sunbathing under what was now an amazingly blue sky. A little over 13km later we were back.
1 / 6Dinner (and desert ) was ready for us and after some free time and games, we settled in for a battle of the brains with a Table Quiz to end all quizzes. Everyone got involved with their teams and hot chocolates afterwards sent everyone off to bed smiling, but tired.
1 / 5The following morning, it was a surprisingly alert bunch for breakfast, with fresh pancakes going down a real treat. It brought a close on a thoroughly enjoyable CSA Hike and Overnight for both Leaders and Beavers alike.
