Beaver Summer Camp 2025 ⛺

Beaver Summer Camp 2025 was spent over the weekend of June 20th-22nd at Collon Scout Camp Site in County Louth.

The weather gods were on our side as Parents, Beavers and Leaders gathered on Friday afternoon at Dunboyne Scout Den, to load up the bus that would take our entire troop, of 34 very excited Beavers, up to the Collon for Summer Camp 2025.

The previous evening, the leader team had packed up the Scout Trailer with Tents, Cooking Equipment, Tables, Chairs, Benches, First Aid Kits, Pioneering Spars, Games and anything else that could be squeezed in to help make the Summer Camp a success. At 17:20, ten minutes ahead of schedule, the bus pulled out of the car park and the Beavers were waved off by their families as they set off for their Summer Camp 2025..!!

Friday evening was spent setting up our tents, officially opening Camp by raising the flag, allocating Beavers to their tents and of course having some mandatory Smores. As the sun set, Beavers settled down for the night as there was a busy day planned for Saturday.

Saturday morning brought another glorious day and after breakfast, the first task of the day was to make sure everyone to had hats and plenty of sunscreen..!!😎

The Leaders had devised three stations for the morning activities including Camp Games, Swing Building & Bridge Building and the Beavers were free to roam between each station to sample whatever took their interest.

After what felt like many hours of building, taking apart, rebuilding and multiple design tweaks later, by midday we had a fully operational Beaver Playground including a Swing Set, Volleyball Court, Tree Swings and a Rope Bridge all built and road tested by the Beavers (with a little help from the Leaders). A special mention to the brave Beavers who conducted early road testing of the various playground elements and provided invaluable feedback to help make key improvements on the initial designs. 🤣

For the rest of Camp, the home built playground got a thorough workout as the Beavers enjoyed the fruits of their hard work, and hopefully, learned a few things along the way.

After lunch the Leaders brought the Beavers off-site visit to the Irish Military Museum, which was located a short distance from the campsite. At the museum, the Beavers got to enjoy a having a go at Archery, got a talk and demonstration from a staff members of World War I era rifle, and each Beaver got to take home a special souvenir from their visit. Afterwards we were brought on an extensive guided tour of the historic memorabilia that is on display at the museum. All in all, the Beavers spent a fun and educational afternoon at the museum.

Back at camp after the visit to the museum, it was time for some games, and the Beaver Playground was back in full swing, as the Leaders got to work on preparing dinner. We have to give special mention to our fabulous camp chiefs Martha, Celine and Matt who produced the most phenomenal food for breakfast, lunch and dinner that kept everyone fed and watered throughout the camp. 👏🏻

Later in the evening we finished up with a traditional campfire, where the Beavers entertained us all with their extensive array of campfire songs that they have learned over the years. Mango anyone??🥭

And with that, a very tired troop of Beavers settled down for the night, and it didn’t take long for all to fall asleep on night two, after a jam packed day of activities and fun!

Sunday morning involved packing and taking down camp. After a glorious day on Saturday, a little rain on Sunday morning did little to dampen spirits. The bags were packed and tents taken down just in time for the parents to arrive for our Closing Ceremony, where each Beaver was presented with a commemorative Camp Badge, Torch and Compass to remember their camp experiences by.

All too soon, Beaver Summer Camp 2025 drew to a close. It was great fun and there were lots of very happy, but tired Beavers heading home with lots of great memories, new experiences to share and plenty stories to tell their families all about their time on camp.

And with that, we sign off on Summer Camp 2025.
