Cub Summer Camp 2025 ⛺
Over the May Bank Holiday weekend (2nd to 5th of May), we held our annual 3 night Cub Summer Camp at Lilliput Adventure Centre in Co. Westmeath, which proved to be a fantastic success!
We had 11 Scouters looking after 41 enthusiastic Cub Scouts. The weather was absolutely brilliant all weekend, and we even got to use 8 brand new tents for the first time. With all the preparation done, we packed up on Thursday, May 1st, with Leaders and Parents helping to load everything – from tents, camping gear, cooking equipment and enough food to feed a small army!
An advance team headed to Lilliput on Friday morning, May 2nd, to set up the campsite, including the kitchen, dining shelter and tent areas. Later that afternoon, the remaining Scouters coordinated the arrival of the 41 Cub Scouts, who were understandably excited for their adventure ahead. The bus journey was smooth and we arrived at the campsite by 7pm.
1 / 5The Cubs quickly settled into their tents, with ages and genders carefully matched and assigned their tents for the weekend. The new tents were a big hit, proving easy to assemble and very comfortable. Camp Chief Ronnie officially opened the camp with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by sharing key information with the Cubs attending.
The Cubs then organized their tents and explored the area before our first meal. Everyone took responsibility for washing their own dishes, a routine we continued throughout the camp. The evening ended with hot chocolate, brioche and some late-night campfire stories for the Scouters.
Saturday started bright and early…!! Following breakfast and tent inspections, the Cubs enjoyed a morning of activities run by the Lilliput staff, including Orienteering and Capture the Flag. After a hearty lunch, the afternoon was filled with Bog Jumping and Water Activities, followed by showers and then some Wall Climbing and Aeroball.
Dinner was a much-appreciated Spaghetti Bolognese 🍝, and the evening included games, singing, and a visit to the camp shop. We even invited the Ballivor Beavers and Cubs staying nearby to join us for a campfire sing-along.
1 / 7Sunday brought another sunny day and a delicious breakfast of eggy-bread. More activities followed, including Laser Tag and a Spider Web Game. In the afternoon, the Scouters organized various fun challenges, including Land Skiing and Bottle Rockets and a special Waterslide for the older Cubs. After pizza for dinner, we had a final trip to the shop and due to the cooler evening, the Cubs enjoyed a movie night in the hostel before a good night’s sleep.
1 / 6Monday morning involved packing up, cleaning the campsite, and one last tent inspection. The bus arrived on time, and with the advance party already at the scout den to help unload, everything was unpacked quickly with the help of parents. Back at the den, we held our closing ceremony, gave out prizes, and lowered the flag for the last time of Cub Summer Camp 2025.
Overall, it was an incredibly successful camp thanks to the amazing group of Cub Scouts and Scouters who worked together, supported each other and created some wonderful memories for Cubs and Scouters alike.
