Hiking Ireland International Mountain Moot 2024
Scouting Ireland Hillwalking Adventure Skills organised an Overseas Expedition to the Lake District in the UK over the October Bank Holiday weekend, between Friday October 25th to Monday October 28th, 2024.
Five of our Leaders attended this event, including our overall Group Leader Bernie O’Connor, Scout Leaders Helen Lonergan, Méabh Ní Thiarnáin and Dave Renshaw. And last, but by no means least, our intrepid Monday Beaver Section Leader, Dermot Walsh.
1 / 8Over the course of the three days five scouters from 1st Meath Dunboyne joined up with 60 other Scouters from all over Ireland to complete a series of challenges, including:
- Sat 26th Oct: Summit Scafell Pike (978m) the highest peak in England.
- Sun 27th Oct: Helvellyn (950m) from Glenridding, ascent via Striding Edge and descent via Swirral Edge.
- Scafell Pike
- Helvellyn Summit
These Moots provide the perfect opportunity for our leaders to learn the skills needed to support our youth members in mountainous areas and to experience routes undertaken by youth members under the current program.
