Splashdown ’26 💦
Over the May Bank Holiday weekend, our Ventures headed to Splashdown 26 at Lough Dan Scout Centre.
Splashdown is a biannual water challenge run by New Ross Sea scouts and largely attended by other Sea Scouts from around the country. Dunboyne, along with Dunshaughlin & Ratoath, ensured Gleann Na Boinne was strongly represented.
Cubs, Scouts & Ventures entered teams of up to 12 competitors to take on a series of challenges throughout Saturday, the main activity being ‘Odin’s Challenge’.
Activities began on Saturday morning with a Colour Run to make sure all participants were primed for the day ahead.

Saturday’s main event was Odin’s Challenge, where teams consisting of 12 participants, took on various land & water based challenges. Each team visited bases including Orienteering, Rope Work, Buoyancy (confusion for land scouts), First Aid & Canoe Building for 30 minute stints before taking on the race challenge.
Canoe Building:The race consisted of half the team on the water and the other half land based building a flag pole. The water based team members had to row out to a location in lough Dan to pick up a flag. The team then rowed to a second location where a further team member in a kayak paddled with flag back to the shore to land over to the land based members to hoist the flag and thus finish the race.

The day was wrapped up by the camp sing along, given extra buzz with flashing light additions. Such fun.
Sunday was wrapped up by the Mud Run & presentation ceremony. For those of you that know Lough Dan, the mud run course lies beside the Lough into the woods. Our Ventures took the shrewd option to watch rather than compete, the thought of being covered in mud before heading home wasn’t appealing.
All in all a successful camp and we may return in 2 years for Splashdown ‘28.
